The Indian Administrative Service

The IAS
The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the administrative civil service of the Indian government. The IAS plays a major role in managing the bureaucracy of both the Central Government and the state governments, with its officers holding strategic posts across the country. The career path of IAS officers is well defined. About 60 to 90 officers are inducted every year from about 300,000 applicants based on the results of a competitive civil service examination.

Upgrade each District in India to a separate State

Due to the intrinsic cultural diversity, each State in India cannot productively govern (legislate, administer, justice) more than 2 million citizens per State.

Hence India should 'decentralize' 604 districts into States or Cantons as in Switzerland.

Govt Officials in India

There is a 7 layer hierarchy (from Assistant Secretary to Cabinet Secretary) for an IAS Officer in his career in India.

This hierarchy has created a chain of 'pleasing' his superiors instead of 'performing' for the nation.

Hence it is imperative to insulate civil servants precious 'passion' and 'potential' from 'pleasing' this hierarchy throughout his career.

Government should constitute a panel of

A) farmer
B) industrialist
C) professor
D) trade union member
E) member of parliament

For a better India as well as a better World: Man's Search for Meaning

Man's Search for Meaning

I first read Victor Frankl's classic, 'Man's Search for Meaning' in 1999, 40 years after it was first published. Frankl's wife, father, mother and brother perished under horrific circumstances in Nazi concentration camps. Only his sister survived.

Putting it into practise

Dear All

How shall we / can we plan and implement our shared passion for a better India ?

India in transition...

India is at a new cross-roads, where rapid advancement in technology and employment is abound and at the same time, the new generation is tempted to lose sight of India's rich cultural heritage.I think this is a crucial juncture where economic advancement needs to be adequately balanced with age-old traditional values.

Not to say that adopting modern values is bad, just that there needs to be a conscious choice in absorbing what is good from both East and West, instead of blindly following Western influences in an era of open market capitalism!
